Our Life Drawing and Portraiture sessions are held at the Kogarah School of Arts with professional models.
Most of our sessions throughout the year are for Life Drawing, but during the winter months, our evening classes are replaced with Portraiture sessions.
We have two classes each month:
Portraiture – Evening Session: 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
Held on the second Thursday of the month.
Life Drawing – Morning session: 10:00am to noon.
Held on the fourth Thursday of the month.
Cost is $15 for SGAS members and $20 for visitors.

Portraiture for November demonstrated some of the many ways a portrait can be created.
This month included pastels, acrylics and of course pencil.
Others worked with charcoal and watercolour.
Our model used the same pose for the evening allowing some fabulous work in under 2 hours.
We will be back in February 2025 with more fabulous models.
Portraiture – 10th October, 2024
Thursday evening portraiture on the second Thursday of the month, is becoming very popular.
Our model for October was new to us and her pose was perfect.
Our members enjoyed the evening with some great results.
As usual Rod Byatt was on hand to provide assistance when needed. We do appreciate him being a part of these sessions.
Portraiture – 26th September, 2024
Our subject this month was the female portrait.
We reviewed face proportions in our under drawing and considered both warm and cool
colours for lit and shaded parts of the face, looking closely at the work of watercolourist Charles Reid.
In our October session, we will look at flowers and leaves up close.
Life Drawing – 26th September, 2024
Our members once again enjoyed Life Drawing at the School of Arts.
The times for the poses start with 1minute sketches and work up to 2 fifteen minute poses.
This allows warming up to get some great artworks. An enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours doing what you love.

Our second Thursday of the month portraiture evening at Kogarah School of Arts was once again a great success seeing 2 new members to the group.
It’s great to see the different techniques and styles our artists have, both beginners and experienced talented members.
